Whats the difference between Flyers and Posters?
Me and my friend are making these flyers and she keeps on calling them posters. And now we are arguing over whether they are flyers, posters, or both.

I don't think they can be used interchangeably in this situation.

They are normal sized sheets of paper, that we are advertising our club on. We have about 15 made.

I say they are called flyers. She calls them posters and says you can use either or.

So can someone tell me whether Im right or wrong? And what the difference is between the two?

Flyers fly, but posters post. For example, if you post on your tube, you are a poster, but if you fly across country, you are a flyer.

a flyer is normally 8 1/2 x 11 or smaller and can be handed out to individuals. it usually contains more information that posters. posters are normally larger and designed to be read quickly and in passing, as they are “posted” (taped, stapled, glued, etc.) on flat surfaces.

in other words…i think YOU are correct :)

When you need to know the difference in terminologies, the dictionary is your first line of reference.

If you will look at these two definitions, you will find that the usage made of the piece of paper is more important in the definition than the description of said paper.

A flyer is something that is generally mailed or handed out – from hand to hand.

A poster is a document that is posted – (taped to a board or telephone pole for example).

The online dictionary is a great help. Try it.

I would generally say a flyer is handed out and a poster is… attached to a wall or some such thing…

FLYERS: are advertising things, such as a pound, halloween party, website, the local acadamy, or something like that.

POSTERS: they are normally “posting” something about someone/something. For example, if you take a sheet of paper and put your name, hobbies, faorite colors, etc, that is called a poster.

Hope i helped! There is not much of a difference, really, but anyways bye!

A poster is intended to be displayed on a surface and, generally, read from a short distance, usually in passing. A poster should not contain so much information that a viewer has to stop read the message being imparted.

A flyer is intended to be held and read in the hand. By it’s nature, it can contain much more detailed information than you might find in a poster. A flyer can be kept and read later, where a poster would not.

Of course, no definition need to be adhered to slavishly. A flyer is often posted on a wall or pole. It can also have a very brief message. Many posters have a LOT of information and cannot be read in one brief glance. Many concert and sports event posters, for example have lots of detailed information, but, if you look at the designs, reducing the size of the poster would make it a good, effective flyer.

But, by definition and intention, they are different.
